Malappuram Man Died Of Nipah Virus Infection Confirms Kerala Health Minister Today News

Malappuram man dies of Nipah virus infection, confirms Kerala Health Minister

Nipah virus claims another life in Kerala

A man from Malappuram district in Kerala has died of Nipah virus infection, confirmed Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Sunday. This is the first Nipah-related death in the state since 2019.

The victim was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. He was admitted to the hospital on September 1 with symptoms of fever, headache, and vomiting. He was later tested positive for Nipah virus infection.

The health minister said that the victim's family members and other contacts are being traced and monitored. "We are taking all necessary steps to contain the spread of the virus," she said.

Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus that can be transmitted from animals to humans. The virus is found in bats and can be transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected bats or their bodily fluids.

The virus can also be transmitted through contaminated food or water. Symptoms of Nipah virus infection include fever, headache, vomiting, and muscle pain. In severe cases, the virus can lead to encephalitis, which can be fatal.

There is no specific treatment for Nipah virus infection. Treatment is supportive and includes measures to manage the symptoms and prevent complications.

The Kerala Health Department has issued an alert following the death of the Malappuram man. The department has asked people to avoid contact with bats and to report any suspected cases of Nipah virus infection to the nearest health facility.
