Germany began their Euro 2024 campaign on home soil with a resounding 5-1 victory over Scotland in Munich. The hosts dominated the match from start to finish, with 21-year-old Jamal Musiala opening the scoring in the 19th minute. Timo Werner added a second just before half-time, and Leroy Sane extended the lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute. Scotland pulled one back through Lyndon Dykes, but Kai Havertz restored Germany's three-goal advantage with a stunning strike. Ilkay Gundogan completed the scoring in the 89th minute to seal a comprehensive victory for the hosts.
Scotland started the match brightly, but Germany soon took control of the game. The hosts were quicker to the ball and more incisive in attack, and they created several chances to score. Musiala's goal was a moment of brilliance, as he received the ball on the edge of the area and drove into the box before firing a low shot into the bottom corner.
Scotland had a chance to equalize just before half-time, but Dykes headed wide from a good position. Germany made them pay for that miss as Werner doubled their lead in the 42nd minute. The Chelsea forward latched onto a long ball over the top and finished coolly past Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall.
Sane extended Germany's lead in the 55th minute with a superb goal. The Manchester City winger collected the ball on the left flank and cut inside before unleashing a powerful shot that flew into the top corner.
Scotland pulled one back through Dykes in the 60th minute, but Germany restored their three-goal advantage just minutes later. Havertz received the ball on the edge of the area and curled a stunning shot into the top corner.
Gundogan completed the scoring in the 89th minute to seal a comprehensive victory for Germany. The Manchester City midfielder scored from close range after being set up by Havertz.
The victory was a perfect start to Euro 2024 for Germany. The hosts were dominant throughout the match and showed why they are one of the favorites to win the tournament.
